not expect. jon huntsman said in may he would not self-finance his presidential campaign even though he's rich enough to do that, at least in large part. today he didn't have to file any campaign fund-raising information, because he hasn't been declared for very long, but did say he raised about $4 million and his campaign would just say that he did contribute to his own coffering here. all they'll say, it wasn't a majority. only that what he gave is less than half. jon huntsman is, at least, sort of self-financing here and declaring it, and letting it be known. is that worrying in terms of his chances as a real candidate or encouraging because he has his own money to spend if he wants to? >> first of all, i don't understand the original statement. don't make a statement that you know can be disproved when the sec reports come out. and in terms of his fund-raising, i'm inclined to say, wait until the next cycle. i mean, jon huntsman has only been around for a little bit. i think his opening is that republicans who are not bachmann republicans decide that in the end he might have a bette

of the rest of the pack. jon huntsman, we can mention, he also has a pretty big fund-raising hall for a guy that not a lot of people know about. $4 million. we should mention half of that, though, is money he kicked in himself. he is part of a very wealthy family that owns a chemical company out there in utah. so not too surprising there. one thing we can tell you this morning is that president obama's re-election campaign, they are very proud of the fact that they have a roughly $490,000 contributors who have donated so far to the president's campaign. that is a number that they are tweeting out and getting out today. that is way more than he had back in 2007. of course, not too surprising back then. he was sort of a long shot for the white house. speaking of presidential runs. we should mention that we are getting reports and we are expecting to see thad mccarter, a congressman from michigan. he is well known up in michigan and well known in tea party circles. he is expected to file his paper work today to run for president. mccotter plays the guitar. so we might see him out on the campai

was going for it except for eric cantor and jon kyl. this time the crowd of opponents was bigger but one important person, john boehner. the important thing to remember here is scaling back from $4 trillion to 2.5 trillion does not make any of the big issues go away. sooner or later republicans are going to have to swallow some revenue increases. host: what is the purpose of today's news conference from the president? caller: the purpose for the president is to set a delicate balance. on the one hand he wants to claim the political high ground, i assume, saying that he tried and pushed for historic bipartisan achievement. unfortunately, we will like it there. the reason is that republicans will not sign on to a bold, $1 trillion tax overhaul. so, he wants to show the voters that he is the big negotiator. everything that he said the revlon in 2008. but he does not want to poison the well to make these negotiations for the rest of the week. >> what is the main message coming from republicans going into this meeting? >> it would seem that their main message is probably going to stay the sam
